At the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, Buick unveiled the newest concept to its luxury minivan model, the GL8 Avenir. It’s been three years since the GL8 had a redesign and the concept shows the direction Buick plans to take future designs. What first meets the eye is the facelift, showcasing a new grille that connects to sharper looking headlights, with chrome accents throughout. Although no promotional images of the back were available, many believe the rear exterior will look similar to current GL8 models.
Inside, the interior bears a new waterfall-inspired design on the seating surfaces. The dash incorporates a huge 12-inch touch-screen infotainment system, as well as an available 14-inch head-up display for convenience and safety.
Minivans aren’t quite as popular in the states as they once were. But it’s very possible that Buick will bring the concept to life, especially in China, its largest market. The 2016 model of the GL8 was the first Buick in China available with the Avenir trim.
Reports already indicate that the GL8 Avenir won’t stay a concept vehicle very long. The brand could reveal a production version of the luxury minivan by the end of this year.
